MINNEAPOLIS, MN -- (Marketwire) -- 04/15/09 -- ShopNBC today announced the launch of its beta version mobile application for Apple's iPhone and iPod touch units, which together total approximately 30 million devices. A first of its kind in the TV shopping industry, ShopNBC is adding another dimension to its shopping experience by making its products available on these mobile devices to the iPod generation. The ShopNBC application is available as a free download from Apple's App Store on iTunes.
Rather than overwhelm the shopper, ShopNBC is taking a simple and elegant, high-impact approach. The first version of the ShopNBC App is focused on the shopping network's best promotion of the day, called "Our Top Value." Also featured are "Once-Only's," items that appear only one time at the price offered and in some cases the product is never showcased again. An example of today's (4/15) OTV is a Pamela McCoy Two Button Python Print Suede Jacket for $99.96. The ability to zoom in for greater product detail in the ShopNBC app is a convenient feature.
The ShopNBC application also allows shoppers to preview items that are being broadcast live or review up to 12 items that were previously aired. The app also invites users to get to know their hosts better by delving into some fun tidbits. All of these features are automatically updated throughout the day. To order using the app, ShopNBC users must call 1-800-884-2212.
If a user wants to browse or search for more products, they can simply go to ShopNBC.com from the app. As the premium lifestyle brand in electronic retailing, ShopNBC brings to its viewers radiant gemstones, fashion jewelry, everyday skin care and cosmetics, fashion-forward apparel, chic handbags, divine bedding, and the latest in consumer electronics.
"The ShopNBC app is part of the company's mobile strategy, which is part of a broader 'ShopNBC Anywhere' initiative," said Keith Stewart, ShopNBC President and CEO. "We believe that shopping should be fun -- an escape from the ordinary into a world where anything is possible. Our initial merchandising strategy on this mobile app is to focus on incredible deals, with a taste for what else can be seen on the shopping network."
Added Stewart, "This is our first step into this mobile platform. Down the road, we will expand the functionality of the app to most likely include video, search and browse, social media, and order status, which is great when expecting a package. We also expect to launch new contextually relevant programming on the ShopNBC network, featuring iPod products, which make demoing and explaining to our viewers a great way to promote and sell."
