Digi International (NASDAQ: DGII) today announced it will offer Android support for the ConnectCard™ for i.MX28 module, a compact wireless system-on-module for developing connected devices based on Freescale™ Semiconductor technology. Embedded application development kits will include drivers and unique Digi software extensions allowing customers to get to market fast using Android. Through the iDigi® Device Cloud™, developers will also have immediate access to a Web applications development platform and world-class device management functionality.
“Customers now have access to the power of Android without investing hundreds of thousands of dollars in development time and customization,” said Larry Kraft, senior vice president of marketing, Digi International. “The cutting-edge combination of Android and the iDigi Device Cloud allows device manufacturers to reduce time to market of connected devices. The ConnectCard for i.MX28 also builds on our collaboration with Freescale to offer customers the benefits of cloud connectivity right out of the box.”
“In addition to our Kinetis® and Coldfire® microcontroller platforms which include the iDigi Connector for immediate access to the iDigi Device Cloud, customers can now build cloud connected devices easily using our i.MX28 platform,” said Ken Obuszewski, Freescale’s director of i.MX marketing. “Cloud connectivity allows customers to differentiate their products and compete in today’s connected world. The iDigi Device Cloud is a key enabler.”
The compact ConnectCard for i.MX28 is an ideal solution for developing smaller, portable devices in medical, building automation and similar applications. It features Wi-Fi and Bluetooth networking options, and at 51 x 35 x 3 mm in size, is small enough for the most compact designs. The module offers easy design integration, low-power operation and unique interface flexibility. It features an integrated 32-bit ARM core running at up to 454 MHz, on-chip power management, Bluetooth 4.0, and dual Ethernet and 802.11 a/b/g/n networking options.
Digi JumpStart Kits for Digi Embedded Linux provide a complete turnkey embedded development solution and are available at Embedded World in Munich in Hall 1, booth 432, for a special show price of €99 (normally $299 MSRP). Digi JumpStart Kits for Digi Embedded Android will be available in June.
