Wind River®, a world leader in embedded and mobile software, has introduced patent-pending packet acceleration technology and added a data plane software engine for network traffic flow analysis to the Wind River Intelligent Network Platform. The software platform is ideal for designing 4G/LTE wireless applications, firewall solutions, and equipment requiring scalable packet analysis for the imminent wave of intelligent networks.
Wind River Intelligent Socket Layer, a new packet acceleration technology added to the Wind River Application Acceleration Engine, assists in scenarios such as the handling of heavy network traffic or transactions on a massive scale by providing an immediate and dramatic performance boost without additional engineering effort. This patent-pending technology allows traffic to be steered to a faster path without having to modify or port existing applications. Compared to the native Linux network stack, Wind River Intelligent Socket Layer can instantly deliver up to a 300% improvement in throughput for User Datagram Protocol applications.
Wind River Flow Analysis Engine is a set of software libraries and tools that enable deep visibility into Layers 4 – 7 traffic flows, including real-time packet classification and protocol and application identification. By categorizing traffic into different flows, customers can identify and better understand the delivery of metadata such as the type of file downloaded or whether the data is email or text. Companies can use this visibility to deliver application-level insight into their solutions to better manage bandwidth or accelerate traffic or even guard against malicious data.
The addition of Wind River Flow Analysis Engine joins the existing Wind River Application Acceleration Engine and Wind River Content Inspection Engine to create a high performance and fully integrated deep packet inspection solution. Wind River Intelligent Network Platform is optimized for Intel® architecture, including the latest Intel® Platform for Communications Infrastructure, and is integrated with the Intel® Data Plane Development Kit (Intel® DPDK).
“Given the ongoing growth of traffic, the industry is hungry for networking equipment that delivers even greater performance, scalability, and intelligence. With stronger network visibility and intelligence, customers can deliver high quality of service by better analyzing and managing traffic, as well as introduce new services,” said Paul Senyshyn, senior director of communication platforms at Wind River. “With our latest software engine and acceleration technology breakthroughs, Wind River continues to address evolving market challenges and help customers build intelligent networks for today and for the future.”
“This is certainly a major step in delivering a comprehensive and yet high performance packet processing solution as new use cases for deep packet inspection gain stronger footing in the network domain,” says Keate Despain, vice president and general manager for Platforms Group at Radisys. “By integrating Wind River Intelligent Network Platform with Radisys' suite of network appliance platforms and solutions, we are able to significantly reduce time-to-market and risk for our telecommunications customers, while delivering market leading network intelligence solutions.”
Launched in 2012, Wind River Intelligent Network Platform is comprised of software that manages a consolidated control and data plane system, and software engines that provide capabilities such as fast packet acceleration and deep packet inspection. Configured with Wind River Linux and a comprehensive suite of development tools, the software platform can also support different combinations of the components, including alternative Linux distributions.
A demonstration of Wind River Intelligent Network Platform will be available at Mobile World Congress in Hall 7/Area 7C66, Embedded World at Hall 5/Booth 5-334 as well as RSA Conference 2013 at Intel booth 1439 starting February 25. Wind River Intelligent Network Platform and its components are available now and more information can be found at http://www.windriver.com/announces/intelligent-network-platform/.
