BILLERICA, MA -- (Marketwire) -- 02/14/13 -- Winchester Systems Inc., a leading data storage solutions provider, today announced the latest addition to its high-speed FlashNAS Unified Storage family. FlashNAS Unified Storage FN-1600 extends the high end of the company's FlashNAS product line, doubling the performance and capacity of its predecessor, the FN-1500.
FlashNAS Unified Storage is an affordable, feature-rich storage server that provides virtual storage pools of CIFS, NFS and iSCSI volumes for Windows, Linux, Unix and Mac OS clients. Built on a 1U carrier-class, NEBS-3 compliant server platform designed to MIL-STD-810G specifications, FlashNAS can be used as a "gateway" to Winchester Systems high-performance FlashDisk storage arrays, or as a stand-alone "appliance" using built-in RAID hardware. More information on FlashNAS Unified Storage benefits can be found in the Winchester Systems whitepaper: "FlashNAS Unified Storage - Affordable Feature Rich NAS."
FlashNAS Unified Storage FN-1600 supports two Intel Xeon 5600 processors (up to 12 cores), and up to 192 GB cache memory -- twelve times that of its predecessor. The FN-1600 also sports two Fibre Channel ports, and up to eight 1-Gigabit Ethernet ports (two of which can be upgraded to 10-Gigabits). These technology enhancements boost FlashNAS scalability to over a Petabyte of capacity and thousands of active users.
Because it's based on Windows Storage Server, FlashNAS can participate seamlessly in one or more Active Directory domains. Winchester Systems integrates high-performance NFS-server software into FlashNAS, providing file access for Linux, Unix and Mac OS users -- and seamless file sharing with Windows users -- without added client hardware or software.
"Now enterprises of all sizes can deploy large-scale, high-performance NAS file services to their users, regardless what operating system they use," said Ted Gumer, Winchester Systems Vice President, Sales and Business Development. "FlashNAS Unified Storage delivers NAS and iSCSI SAN storage at a fraction of the price of many popular offerings," he added.
Winchester Systems FlashNAS Unified Storage FN-1600 is available immediately, with delivery in 1-3 weeks. Pricing starts at under $6,000.
