SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 02/14/13 -- Bluebox Security, a stealth startup tackling enterprise mobile security, today announced the formation of Bluebox Labs, a research team focused on understanding today's most critical mobile security threats and vulnerabilities. Led by renowned "bug hunter" and hacker, Jeff Forristal (Rain Forest Puppy), the Bluebox Labs team includes a sophisticated group of researchers with deep expertise in mobile (Android and iOS), network and application security.
"In a BYOD world defined by rapidly escalating mobile and network security threats, organizations need to stay one step ahead," said Adam Ely, Bluebox COO and co-founder. "The Bluebox Labs team is on the cutting edge of threat and vulnerability research with a specific focus on the most widely-used mobile platforms, Android and iOS. The Bluebox Labs team includes:
- Jeff Forristal, Bluebox Chief Scientist: Recognized under the pseudonym "Rain Forest Puppy," Forristal is an industry expert in application security and was responsible for the first documented security discovery of SQL injection, the first publicized responsible security disclosure policy, and the first intelligent open-source web application scanner. Forristal has a decade of security research experience spanning software, hardware, operations/IT, and physical access control at Intel, Zscaler, HP and SPI Dynamics. He regularly presents his research at industry events including BlackHat and CanSecWest as well as conferences around the world.
- Andrew Blaich, Ph.D.: Blaich has worked at both Samsung and Qualcomm researching next generation access control, kernel security, and indoor location systems for mobile devices. Blaich holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science and Engineering from the University of Notre Dame where he focused on enterprise security and wireless networks.
- Patrick Schulz: Schulz brings a background in binary instrumentation, reverse engineering, exploitation, and experience as a penetration tester to the Bluebox Labs team. A security researcher in the field of mobile devices and networking, Schulz has built a collaborative Android reverse engineering framework and Android application behavioral analysis service Dex Labs.
- Felix Matenaar: A published security researcher, Android hacker, and developer for Android application analysis service Dex Labs, Matenaar has published research on dynamic program analysis, static android application analysis, post-exploitation methods, malware analysis and SAP security. Matenaar also brings a background in network penetration testing, program analysis.
