SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 02/11/13 -- Gandi, a leading domain name registrar and cloud-hosting provider, today announced the Beta release of their Private VLAN technology, which will be available free to all Gandi Cloud VPS customers starting this week. The technology, which Gandi plans to release as open source later this year, links public cloud VPS instances across private VLAN segments, breaking through existing network scalability barriers now faced by cloud service providers by effectively squaring the number of VLANs, or secure virtual networks, that can be implemented in a given network switch fabric. Cloud Service providers will soon be able to expand operations using their existing infrastructures with confidence that their customers' application ports remain secure and invisible to the public.
The challenges for scaling secure communications to public clouds have been a limiting factor for cloud adoption. Gandi's Private VLAN technology eases these limits, by more than two orders of magnitude. Issues of VLAN exhaustion and switch address space overload in flat switched networks are addressed by the technology, without the need to replace existing network infrastructure with something more expensive, like software defined networking, or SDN. Gandi engineers were the first to solve the problem using this approach.
"Gandi has always been an advocate for an open internet so we are extremely pleased to be introducing this solution to the private VLAN puzzle," said Thomas Stocking, COO, Gandi. "We're also excited because this will let our customers expand their cloud implementations to meet the needs of their customers."
Today Gandi is also announcing a Web Accelerator service for hosting customers, which also will be available starting this week. The service provides load balancing through reverse proxy, and acceleration through caching. It will be offered for free with Gandi Cloud VPS servers, during the beta period.
Gandi Private VLANs are included in the price of Gandi Cloud VPS instances, which start at $16.00 per month. For more information about Gandi Private VLAN, visit www.gandi.net or call 410-429-7402.
