Using Porticor to encrypt your S3 storage is easy, once you get the hang of it. The first time though, I recommend that you go through these steps one by one, without cutting any corners.
Step 1: Creating Your Porticor Project
This is documented in this Knowledge Base article.
Step 2: Setting Up Porticor for S3
Click “Manage” on the Porticor Virtual Appliance that you would like to configure as the S3 encryption gateway:

From the Porticor Virtual Appliance user interface click “Distributed Storage (S3)”:

If this is the first time you’re accessing the S3 configuration page, you will be required to enter your Amazon Web Services account credentials. Please do so and click “Store to your private storage”:

Your AWS access key ID will automatically appear. Simply check the box next to it, or add an additional key ID.

Step 3: Configure your S3 client
Porticor is compatible with several S3 clients for both Linux (s3cmd) and Windows. in this guide we’ll use S3 Browser for Windows. From the toolbar menu, click “Accounts” –>”Manage Accounts”. Select your S3 account and click “Edit”. Click the “Advanced” link at the bottom left:

Copy the Porticor Virtual Appliance address from your browser:

and paste it into the S3 Browser advanced account properties dialog:

Click “Close”, followed by “Save Changes”.
Congratulations!
Your S3 client is now using secure storage, transparently.
Any file you upload is encrypted before it is sent to S3. Any file you download is retrieved from S3 and decrypted on the fly.
