NEW YORK, NY -- (Marketwire) -- 12/19/12 -- Varonis Systems Inc., the leading provider of comprehensive data governance software, announced that the Varonis Data Governance Suite has been named an Excellence Award finalist for Best Enterprise Security Solution in the 2013 SC Awards. The SC Awards recognize outstanding leadership and achievement in information security, acknowledging companies with superior security products that help customers tackle today's most pressing IT challenges.
Hundreds of IT security companies nominated their solutions for consideration in the SC Awards and entries are evaluated by a jury hand-picked by SC Magazine's editorial team for their breadth of knowledge and experience in the information security industry.
"SC Magazine's selection of the Varonis Data Governance Suite as a finalist for Best Enterprise Security Solution proves that the challenges organizations face for managing and protecting their critical data are paramount to successful and secure business operations," said Yaki Faitelson, CEO, Varonis.
The Varonis Data Governance Suite answers the big questions: Who has access to data and who uses it? Who does sensitive data belong to? Who has and should have access to it? How do I identify excess and unneeded permissions? Who accessed or deleted my data?"
The SC Awards, now in its 16th year, are the premier global recognition for IT security professionals and products that fend off the myriad security threats in today's corporate world. The annual awards showcase the best solutions, services and professionals while recognizing achievement and technical excellence.
"This year's SC Awards are possibly the stiffest competition we've ever had," said Illena Armstrong, vice president and editorial director of SC Magazine. "As information security continues to grow in importance this has only added more weight to our program. Recognition for the tireless efforts of the men and women providing information security to the organizations around the world is paramount to SC Magazine and we look forward to celebrating them at the SC Awards gala."
The winner will be announced at the 2013 SC Awards U.S. ceremony to be held on Feb. 26, 2013 in San Francisco.

To date, many big data analytics are associated with "machine generated" data like trade information, location data, etc. However, 80% of organizational data is unstructured (source: IDC). This human-generated content lives on file servers, intranets, NAS devices and email systems in the form of spreadsheets, presentations, audio files, video files, blueprints and designs.
The Varonis Data Governance Suite leverages big data analytics to help organizations better manage, and protect unstructured data by:
- Aligning data sets with business areas and data owners
- Connecting disparate teams and data sets
- Discovering access patterns and collaborative flows
- Identifying areas of high risk and users with too much access
- Baselining access patterns, flagging potential abuse
- Enhancing data access control, ownership, classification, entitlements and authorization processes
- Identifying stale, unneeded, or non-business data for archiving or deletion
It aggregates all data access events -- without requiring native OS auditing -- to build a complete picture of who can and who is accessing data, and who should have their access revoked. It also leads IT to rightful data owners, so the right people can ensure appropriate access and usage. With the Varonis Data Classification framework, IT can immediately identify folders with excessive permissions that also contain quantities of sensitive data.
The Varonis Data Governance Suite includes the Varonis Metadata Framework and integrated products for automated unstructured data protection and management: Varonis DatAdvantage for Windows, Exchange, Directory Services, SharePoint, UNIX/Linux; Varonis Data Transport Engine; Varonis DataPrivilege; and the Varonis IDU Classification Framework. Varonis monitors users' data access and quickly gathers enough metadata to accurately determine and recommend who should and should not have access to data.
