EarthLCD.com, the recognized leader in smart, touch LCDs, announced the immediate availability of the ezLCD-302, an aggressively priced, smart color LCD module with graphics processing unit (GPU) for outdoor and high ambient light environments such as outdoor panel meters, daylight readable human machine interface (HMI) and temperature controllers. Its low cost makes it a viable alternative to outdoor readable character modules and FSTN passive matrix, vacuum florescent or more complex high bright graphic LCD displays.

The ezLCD-302 all-in-one modular design unites a reflective color LCD, control electronics, memory and I/O with an easy to use USB programmable firmware environment to reduce engineering costs and speed time to market. Serial terminal software is included, and the EarthSEMPL language (Simple Embedded Macro Programming Language) allows users to quickly customize macros, graphical objects, fonts, images and interfaces shortening the design cycle oftentimes to a few hours versus days and weeks.
“Applications for the ezLCD-302 can be rapidly developed under Windows, Linux and OSX operating systems,” said Rich Obermeyer, EarthLCD.com's vice president of engineering. “The ability to easily copy macros, fonts and bitmaps to the ezLCD-302's flash-drive from a PC via USB and execute commands using a serial terminal program is extremely beneficial to engineers. An additional bonus is the built-in security feature that allows code and bitmaps to be locked for final product implementation.”
The ezLCD-302 features a 2.7 inch diagonal, highly reflective sunlight-readable, color TFT LCD providing 240x160 pixel resolution, high contrast ratio, 4096 colors, LED front light and low-power consumption. Its intelligent control electronics are highlighted by a GPU, four megabytes of flash memory, USB 2.0, SPI, I²C (master) and RS232/TTL interfaces. The ezLCD-302 operates at a +3.3V supply voltage, draws less than 140 mA, and offers a -10 to +60°C operating temperature range. It is RoHS compliant and measures 3.73 x 2.14 inches.
The ezLCD-302's retail price is $79.00 each. An ezLCD-30X-EDK optional development kit is available for prototyping and priced at $99.00. It includes an engineering development kit board, two USB cables, 3.7 lithium battery, jumper shunts, screwdriver and standoffs.
