First PyCon Canada Event in Toronto Sets the Stage for International Conference in 2014

TORONTO, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 11/13/12 -- Over the past weekend in and on to Tuesday, November 13th, PyCon Canada brought together the diverse Canadian Python community for the first time - to exchange ideas and share insights and push boundaries of Python development.

This event is a prelude to the 2014 PyCon North America conference, which will take place in Montreal. It will be the first time the international gathering will be held outside the U.S.

The sold-out PyCon Canada event attracted over 275 enthusiasts and high profile speakers including Mike Bayer, creator of the immensely popular SQLAlchemy library and Kenneth Reitz, who is behind both the Requests library as well as Python for Humans, a community project that aims to improve the ease-of-use and understanding of the Python toolchain.

The PyCon movement is dedicated to enhancing Python, a dynamic and powerful programming language used in a wide range of applications and often compared to Perl, Ruby, Scheme or Java. Python is a flexible language that enables developers to create advanced coding quickly.

In April 2012, the PyConCa Association decided to hold the first ever Canadian national Python conference, and 500px, a leading, premium photo-sharing community, and supporter of the platform, immediately contacted the organizers and asked how they could help make it happen. 500px sponsored the event the first day sponsorships became available and became the event's sole Gold Sponsor.
