HOUSTON, TX -- (Marketwire) -- 11/13/12 -- Idera, a leading provider of application and server management solutions, announced today the release of version 5.0 of Idera Server Backup (formerly R1Soft Continuous Data Protection). Many companies struggle to find comprehensive solutions for the cost effective backup of all their physical servers, as well as the fast-growing population of virtual servers. With Idera Server Backup, companies gain an affordable, enterprise-class software solution for their physical and virtual server environments, at a price point that is 80% cheaper on average than other solutions. Today, Idera Server Backup is protecting more than 275,000 servers in thousands of datacenters worldwide.
"The reality is that properly backing up and protecting data on servers is cost prohibitive for most organizations today. This means that some servers are rarely or infrequently backed up and others aren't backed up at all. Additionally, virtualization means that we need to backup not only the physical servers but the virtual servers that proliferate in our environment," said Wayne Lansdowne, Chief Systems Architect at Applied Innovations. "With Idera we get all the functionality, features and ease of use we need at a price we can afford. Now we are confident that all our servers are effectively protected."
Administrators today face a myriad of challenges in developing a comprehensive, reliable and cost-effective server backup strategy including:
- Rapid, unending growth of physical and virtual servers and data that need to be backed up
- Complex multi-platform environments
- More dynamic data requiring more frequent backups
- Shrinking backup windows and budgets
- Cost and complexity of legacy backup software constraining deployment across servers
Idera Server Backup addresses these challenges by providing a fast, affordable and proven solution for backup and recovery for mixed server environments (physical, virtual, Windows and Linux). With the release of version 5.0, Idera provides all of the key features and functionality needed for effective and speedy backup, at a fraction of the price of other solutions -- $20 per virtual machine or $200 per physical server, up to 20% of the cost of other comparable software.
"There is a gap in the market between high-end legacy backup solutions and single-server tools that don't scale. Companies need reliable solutions that can meet the needs of the environment they have today and the growing physical and virtual server farm they will have tomorrow," said Rick Pleczko CEO of Idera. "We are changing the value price equation with the delivery of Idera Server Backup 5.0, making it easy and cost effective for anyone to backup every server in their datacenter."
Idera Sever Backup Key Capabilities
Unlike other solutions, which can take days to set up, Idera Server Backup can be downloaded, configured and installed in less than 30 minutes. No expensive additional modules are required and no professional services or additional training costs are necessary to get up to speed. The software offers a unique, efficient solution -- Continuous Data Protection -- leveraging block level backup technology that identifies exactly which portions of a hard disk need to be read for an incremental backup. This means the backup is performed with minimal load on production servers and in minutes, not hours, and users can backup data as frequently as every 15 minutes with minimal impact.
The product supports backups for both Windows and Linux. Over 9 different Linux distributions are supported including most custom and patched Linux kernels. The software also protects servers in virtual environments including VMware, Hyper-V and Xen and provides intelligent support for MS Exchange, MySQL and MS SQL Server.
