Logicworks Partners With LINBIT to Lower Costs and Boost Performance/Availability of Managed Cloud Service

LINBIT Open Source Storage Replication and Mellanox InfiniBand Will Help Logicworks Break Cloud "I/O Barrier"

NEW YORK, NY and VIENNA, AUSTRIA -- (Marketwire) -- 08/20/09 -- Logicworks, a leading provider of high availability and private cloud hosting solutions, today announced that it is working with LINBIT, a global provider of redundant storage replication solutions, to develop a high-performance replication system for Logicworks' customers. LINBIT DRBD open source technology combined with an InfiniBand fabric from Mellanox will lower costs and make it possible to achieve unprecedented levels of input/output (I/O) performance, leading to improved cloud-based storage management and disaster recovery capabilities.

LINBIT develops and supports DRBD, a leading storage replication technology commonly deployed in high-availability clusters. DRBD allows users to maintain full redundancy at the data level, while foregoing the high cost traditionally associated with such configurations.

The companies will leverage InfiniBand technology provided by Mellanox Technologies (NASDAQ: MLNX) (TASE: MLNX). The adoption of InfiniBand for the cloud-based system will provide Logicworks' customers with the unparalleled performance that is critical for hosting latency sensitive applications.

Logicworks has been using DRBD extensively over the years in its round-the-clock, 24/7 hosting business that has formed the core of its company. Mellanox is participating through its role as part of the OpenFabrics Alliance, an industry consortium focusing on middleware software for high-performance, low-latency networks.

"Our InfiniBand interconnect solutions will enable high-performance replication at a fraction of the cost by bridging Logicworks' back-end storage with their virtualized environment," said John Monson, vice president, marketing, Mellanox. "We are pleased to be part of this collaboration, which will return value to the open source community as well as boost price/performance for enterprise cloud customers."

"By utilizing both LINBIT's DRBD technology and Mellanox's InfiniBand interconnects, Logicworks' customers will be able to take their cloud-based applications to the next level," said Bart Grantham, R&D vice president, Logicworks. "We are eager to build on our relationship with LINBIT and excited to be among the first in the industry to offer such a solution to our customers."

Based on the Linux operating system and maintained as open source software, the new solution will also utilize the most up-to-date hardware and software to offer customers an unparalleled service in the cloud. The high-performance database and storage environments will be delivered though an open architecture of highly resilient, clustered application storage and can substitute many replication systems, at a substantially reduced cost.

"This relationship represents a substantial growth opportunity for LINBIT, both in terms of being able to provide enterprises with cutting-edge solutions that will enable them to better leverage the cloud as well as in developing the technology that will help to make this possible," said Florian Haas, partner management at LINBIT.

The companies' efforts will yield a working product by the end of the third quarter 2009, at which time it will be offered to Logicworks' application-intensive client base as a managed solution.

Today's workforce is trading their cubicles and corporate desktops in favor of an any-location, any-device work style. And as digital natives make up more and more of the modern workforce, the appetite for user-friendly, cloud-based services grows. The center of work is shifting to the user and to the cloud. But managing a proliferation of SaaS, web, and mobile apps running on any number of clouds and devices is unwieldy and increases security risks. Steve Wilson, Citrix Vice President of Cloud,...
Artificial intelligence, machine learning, neural networks. We're in the midst of a wave of excitement around AI such as hasn't been seen for a few decades. But those previous periods of inflated expectations led to troughs of disappointment. This time is (mostly) different. Applications of AI such as predictive analytics are already decreasing costs and improving reliability of industrial machinery. Pattern recognition can equal or exceed the ability of human experts in some domains. It's devel...
